Public transport in Brisbane is excellent and undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible for fare discounts on buses, trains and ferries. Pre-university students are not entitled to fare discounts.

For further public transport information including cost, journey planners and timetables refer to Transinfo, South East Queensland’s public transport information service. For more details read Info Sheet 3 - Public Transport or visit Transinfor for all your transport needs.

For students, an intercampus shuttle bus runs between all three campuses. The timetable for this service is available online and in hard-copy from the QUT Student Guild Help Desks.

Driving in Queensland

If your considering driving in Brisbane or buying a car, Info Sheet 4 - Private Transport can give you some information. It also has details on using your overseas drivers licence to drive on Queensland roads. Make sure your visit Queensland Transport and download their brochure titled "Driving licence information for overseas people". Queensland Transport also has information on vehicle registration and insurance.

We strongly advise new international students not to attempt to drive until you are familiar with Queensland road rules. First thing to know is that we drive on the left-side of the road, if your coming from a country where you drive on the right, it does take a little getting use to. For more do's and don't of driving read Driving Safety or Driving in Australia and visit the links below. Also read Learning to Drive.
