Pathways and English courses

[Print-friendly version]

Studies (Ballard, B. 1988; Barker, M. 1990; Quintrel, N. 1992; Shores, P. & Vivekananda, K. ,1997, ...) have shown that academic achievement is linked to the social, cultural and psychological adjustment of the International Students. Groups Support being organised by ISS is only one of the avenues you might find helpful in your first year at QUT. All first years are invited to join.

Groups Support consist of informal small groups (5 to 10 members in each group) of International Students coming from various cultural backgrounds. The group serves as a "stopping off point" where students can exchange stories about their adjustment experiences. Activities and discussions should offer helpful strategies and positive outlook that will help students focus on their "main journey" (the academic achievement and social competence) in this university. Students' stories are invaluable and confidential.

Interested? Call Maria McCarthy (International Student Adviser) on 3138 1595 on a Monday or Tuesday or to register, e-mail mv.mccarthy@qut.edu.au. When you register, please indicate your day and time preference and your most important reason for being interested to join Group Support.

Refreshments are provided and you are welcome to bring your morning tea or lunch.
