As a tenant in a house or unit, there are certain laws that apply to you. It is important that before you sign a lease or any other documentation, you are aware of your rights and responsibilities as a tenant. Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Keeping the place clean
  • Keeping the terms of the tenancy agreement
  • Reporting any damage to the property to the lessor/ agent
  • Not using the place for any illegal purposes
  • Not intentionally, maliciously, or negligently damaging the place
  • Being responsible for their guests' behavior
  • Paying the rent on time and in the way outlined in the tenancy agreement.

If you would like to know more, or are having any problems, come in and see us at ISS. You can also visit the Residential Tenancies Authorities website.
