Try to give as much notice as possible before checking out of your motel. Read our Info Sheet 2 - Moving In.

If there are two or three of you moving together, call one of the taxi companies and ask for a station wagon to transport your luggage. The price is the same as for normal sedans. Yellow Couriers have courier vans, trucks and utilities (small trucks) that can be hired for $35 - $45 for the first hour.

Electricity

Contact Energex, 150 Charlotte St, Brisbane City. Office hours: Monday to Friday: 8.15 am - 4.45 pm, Customer Service Telephone: 131253 (phone hours 8 am - 6 pm)

There is an $80 security deposit that has to be paid at a Commonwealth Bank Office or Australia Post Office within 14 days. You can use your credit card. You will get an electricity bill every three months. When you leave, your security deposit will be credited on your final account.

Gas

Southside Residents: Energex is also responsible for supplying gas to areas on the southside. A security deposit of $80 will be required. You can use your credit card and apply by phone. It is not possible to get your gas connected on weekends. You will get a gas bill every three months.

Northside Residents: Origin Energy, Customer Service Telephone: 132461.You can apply over the telephone to have the gas connected. An invoice for the security deposit of $60 and establishment fee of $25 plus GST will be sent to you. This can be paid at any Australia Post Office within 7 days. Origin Energy does not connect gas on weekends. You will get a gas bill every three months. For LPG cylinders, customers can call 132462.

If there are gas cylinders at the premises, phone the appropriate gas company to make the necessary transfer arrangements.

Communication
