English Pronunciation at University 

Improve your English at the new series of workshops offered by International Student services Language and Learning Services. There are three sessions in the series so you need to commit to all three.

Session 1 Sounds of English and needs analysis
Session 2 Word stress and sentence stress: conversation
Session 3 Word stress and sentence stress: academic settings

Offered Wednesdays 12 -1pm (Week 2, 3, 4) 5/3/08, 12/3/08, 19/3/08 @ level 3 X block Gardens Point

Graduating Student Workshop

A workshop for international students in their final semester.


AusAID Introductory Academic Program (IAP)

Date: 16 June - 11 July (to be confirmed)
Venue: Level 3, X Block, Gardens Point 

FOR AusAID STUDENTS ONLY: The Introductory Academic Program is a 5 week intensive program for AusAID scholarship students which commences from 14/01/2008 till 15/02/2008. The aim of the program is to give you necessary information to help you settle into life in Brisbane and to prepare you for the academic expectations and related skills for study at QUT. You will also be given important information about your scholarship obligations as well as sources of support available.


Academic writing at QUT

When: 16 July 2008, repeated on 17 July 2008, 10am-12pm
Where: to be confirmed , Gardens Point

Academic writing (essays, reports, literature reviews, etc) is the most commmon form of assessment at university. Your ability to write effectively in English will be vital to your success. This workshop will introduce you to academic writing at QUT and cover some of the important strategies you will need to succeed. Topics covered include:

  • the most common types of writing at university
  • what lecturers will be looking for when marking your work
  • how to structure your writing for maximum impact
  • critical thinking
  • using references
