  • Book your ticket home early. Don’t wait until you finish exams or you may miss out and end up paying more for your travel. Once you know your exam timetable, see your travel agent and book in a return date.

  • Exam dates and results – Make sure you are familiar with the examination dates and when the results are released. Information on examination period and release dates of exams can be found in QUT’s Academic calendar. You can also view you results on QUT Virtual. If you are not happy with your results and would like to review your grade, make sure you are aware of QUT’s policy on Review of Grade. There is a time frame in which you must submit your application for a Review of Grade.

  • If you are eligible for exclusion, make sure you access your exam results ASAP after these are released. Exclusion letters will be sent to your address in the QUT system. It is advisable that a student who is excluded appeals as, without an appeal, the student may be reported to DIAC for unsatisfactory performance resulting in cancellation of visa. Advisers at ISS can assist with appeals against exclusion.

  • Graduation – When you have completed your course requirements you will be invited to participate in the graduation ceremonies held in February, April/May, and September/October each year. If you think you will be eligible to graduate at one of these ceremonies, please visit the Graduation site.

  • Return things that you borrowed – If you have any borrowed items from the library, it is important that you return them as this can lead to your results being withheld and incurring fines. It’s also important to return any items you may have borrowed from friends.

  • Allow some time to packing your belongings – You can access helpful hints in how to best pack and send your belongings home www.jetta.com.au or www.seven-seas.com.au

  • Tuition fees and other fees – Got outstanding fees? Make sure that you clear any debts with QUT before returning home.

  • Going home for good? If you have completed your studies and do not intend to return to Australia, you may want to consider some things you need to do before leaving. The Graduating Students Info Sheet will assist your preparation before leaving Brisbane and help with areas like re-adjusting to your home country, employment issues, tax refunds, accommodation issues, disconnecting your phone, electricity, internet, rent, bond and banking.

  • Don’t forget to update address and personal details on QUT Virtual as this will be important for QUT to send any correspondence.
