[Print-friendly version]
Students who are met at the airport through the ISS Airport Reception service
are given a Welcome Letter, city map, and a Gardens
Point campus map. The letter contains the essential information of what
to do next, emergency numbers, a couple of reminders. Read it carefully and
carry it with you for the first few days.
If you're arriving in February or July, one of the first things to do is attend
a Discover Brisbane
seminar. If you arriving outside these times just visit
ISS to find out what to do next and what services are available.
Give yourself plenty of time to recover from your flight before venturing out.
Familiarise yourself with your immediate surroundings and always carry the address
of where you are staying. Students often comment on how friendly and helpful the
people of Brisbane are, so don't be afraid to ask for help if you need to.
Whether it's shopping, changing money, or opening
a bank account most of the things you'll need will be found on the Queen
Street Mall or the Myer Centre. For a detailed map of all Brisbane streets
visit www.whereis.com.au
If someone else picks you up
If a relative or friend is meeting you and arranging temporary accommodation,
you will not need airport reception from ISS but you should still download the Welcome Letter. After you have settled in, contact ISS and inform us of your arrival in Brisbane. Be sure to come to our office
to collect your Orientation program and other information. If you arrive after business hours or at the weekend,
when the University is not open, please contact us on the
next working day.
