Student accommodation website launched by QUT

Like-minded students looking for places to live and people to live with now have an online resource provided by Queensland University of Technology.

Students from any university can access the Accommodation Services website, www.qut.edu.au/accommodation, and place or peruse accommodation listings.

QUT Domestic Accommodation Officer Don Foster said the website provided a complete accommodation service, which offered information and support for home and house-mate hunting students.ISS now manages Accommodation Services for all QUT students, which will hopefully result in more shared housing between international and domestic students.

“The service includes a web-based accommodation database and online resources to help with budgeting, tenancy matters and other issues related to living away from home,” Mr Foster said.

“Together with Counselling Services the service also provides advocacy for students related to tenancy issues or disputes.”

Visit the Accommodation Services website at www.qut.edu.au/accommodation.

Volunteers needed

Volunteering is a great way to meet people, enhance your educational experiences and most of all volunteering can be great fun. ISS is looking for volunteers to help with new students starting next semester and for on-going projects and activities organised through the East West Centre.

Semester 2, 2008 Orientation

If you have an interest to assist commencing students with practical tips about living in Brisbane and studying at QUT, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for friendly people who have a genuine interest in helping new students settle into Brisbane and QUT. You have the opportunity to meet new friends from different cultures, help new students discover Brisbane and QUT, provide useful information on any number of things ........ like the best places to shop and eat.

Please contact Lio Lay at ISS for more information

East West Centre - Projects and Activities

The East West Centre promotes programs, events and activities that encourage interactions between international and local students and staff for the sharing of knowledge, skills and experiences. This is facilitated through recreational opportunities such as trips and social functions, specific cross-cultural activities, accommodation services, volunteering, international student associations across the university campuses, and linkages with external community organisations.

For people interested in being a part of the East West volunteering team, please contact Sarah Pearce at the East West Centre (phone 3138 1895)
