BobbyIndia, Information Technology

In Australia you are often required to speak up in front of the class whereas in India it is far more passive. I also got used to forming groups and discussing various topics.

I would like to encourage people, especially those from India, to put aside their reservations when it comes to approaching people and socializing with others. I was initially very shy and reserved and was not used to the easygoing nature of Australians. I think it is important to try to mix with people early so that you are included in various things socially and academically.

In India we are more reserved about approaching people, especially those of the opposite sex. In Australia relationships between male and female students are much more casual. I believe I could have had a better experience if I had not been so timid and reserved. In India we generally don't have assignments at university level. We have mid-semester exams and final exams.

I had no major difficulties adjusting to the academic demands of study at an Australian university. I was however not used to the multiple-choice format when doing exams in Australia because we don't usually have multiple choice questions in India.
