International Student Services (ISS) is responsible for the general welfare
of all international students studying at QUT by providing the following services;
- pre-arrival information and briefings
- airport reception
- accommodation services
- orientation programs
- personal advice, counselling and support
- English language assistance
- academic learning skills
- East West program including social and recreational activites
- life skills and returning home workshops
Since the beginning of the university's international student program in 1986,
ISS has been there to not only welcome new international student but also to
help them with all the practicalities of adjusting to a new country.
ISS exists because the university acknowledges that students from other countries
may face difficulties that are different from those experienced by Australian
students. Living and studying in a new country requires significant adjustments
in terms of language, culture and style of learning. In addition to the academic
and professional challenges, students experience considerable personal and social
development changes.
ISS provides advice and referrals through email as well as a 24 hour emergency telephone number. All personal communication with an adviser (counsellor) is kept strictly confidential.
